"Mean" Encounters

I will never cease to be amused by people who think that monsters that attempt to kill the PCs are fine, but those that harm their items are "mean." Magic swords can be replaced with about as much fuss as a resurrection spell, I'd say, so one's as bad as the other, I'd say.
